Halloween at it's Best
Halloween at it's best
Maybe I am out of touch but Halloween to me is either a celebration of the dark, sinister side of life or a celebration of mass marketing. But on the other hand, I have a son whose favorite holiday is Halloween and he goes way out to make it fun for the whole block. So maybe we just need to add an extra element to this holiday.
I hope Halloween becomes an opportunity for children to learn about archetypes and how to use their imagination to create their own Superhero using these attributes. A Superhero
1. Knows that there are UNLIMITED possibilities if only you allow yourself the space to see them. 2. You must CARE about the needs of others. 3.Think first and then ACT. 4.Notice before there is a problem by listening with your heart and mind. 5.Help others by finding out what they need to help themselves. 6.Explore what you are good at and then also find people with different skills you may need. 7.Learn as much as you can because one day it may save a life. 8.All People are important so do not judge them or let your pride cause you to think you are the better person.
A great activity is to think of 5 people you know including people you do not really like and write their names onto a piece of paper. What does each person do better than anyone else? For instance, if you are a little shy, think of a really loud person that demands attention and put that attribute next to their name. (When you are in a crowd of people and need to get their attention, picture this person in your mind and act like them.)
I tried this and I put nonjudgemental next to my brother's name because he treated every person he met as if they were the most important person he knew. Then I thought of my mother whom I never seemed to please and thought of how determined she could be. When I started thinking of my own attributes I put creativity and noticing other people's needs. But I also realized that I was always scared to try new things incase I failed. So I put act next to my husband's name so I could bring him to mind when I needed to try something new.
Try this with your family and in the process of creating your own superhero you might also find a superhero within yourself.
Most importantly, know that U CAN HELP make the world a better place for everyone.
