Meditation changed my life. I have Parkinson's Disease, but I do not shake when I am meditating. My mind has always raced with too many thoughts. Now it has time to rest. Studies show your blood pressure drops when you meditate. I am able to slow down and listen to others. I am better able to focus throughout the day. People think meditatin helps you to tune out life, but it actually helps you to tune into your inner peace and strength. It is "THE PRACTICE" that trains the mind to slow down, become calmer and more able to find what you need each day.
Think of driving down the road in New York City and just catching all of the roads signs out of the corner of your eye as they wiz by. Now envision driving in West Texas. You can go 50 miles and not see one sign. Meditation takes you from New York to Texas and beyond. The space between the road signs is empty in your mind. This gives you the opportunity to have room available for any new experience or thought that may happen.
I remember a Donald Duck cartoon where he was cleaning out a room filled with filing cabinets brimming over with papers. The room was really his mind. He had a feather duster and did not know where to begin. Envision this as your mind and the files are full of your thoughts. Did you know that you may have 60-80,000 thoughts a day and 75% you already had before ? Meditation helps to quiet your mind creating a silent space undisturbed by the past or the future. This space or “Gap” in between your thoughts has the potential for any other thought or infinite possibilities. We learn to declutter our minds allowing us to find our true selves by entering into “unbounded awareness”. You still have thoughts when you meditate but you are not trying to direct them.
There are many different kinds of meditation. At first you may find a guided meditation is more helpful to you. Or you may use a guided meditation along with your daily Primordial Sound Meditation practice. You can listen to Deepak Chopra and Oprah guide you through many different topics like; Abundance and Gratitude in their online 21 day meditations.
In Primordial Sound Meditation we silently repeat a "Mantra". This word has two parts: man, which is the root of the Sanskrit word for mind; and tra, which is the root of the word of instrument. Mantra is an instrument of the mind with a powerful vibration that allows you to enter into a deep state of meditation. I truly believe Primordial Sound Meditation is the most beneficial meditation for each of us personally. You give yourself the space to reach your full potential. Primordial Sound is based on the time and place of your birth.
Whichever kind of meditation you choose at first follow these steps. RPM: Rise-Pee-Meditate. Create a special space where it is quiet and comfortable. Turn off your cellphones. If you have a pet, teach them to sit quietly also. Sit in a comfortable position. and follow your breath. This allows you to be in the present moment. Meditate twice a day for 15 to 30 min.
If you can not find the time to meditate in your ideal spot morning and night. Then sit in your car after you have parked before you go into work or at night before your enter your home. Take just 10 min. to close your eyes and relax into a meditation.
Try a "so hum" meditation. Relax, close your eyes, take a deep breath and then just follow the rythym of your natural breath, silently repeating; "so" when you breath in and "hum" when you breath out.
